Why Do People in New York Move?

IMG_4806-2

New Yorkers typically move for different reasons than other Americans due to the simple fact that New Yorkers tend to live in Apartments rather than in Houses. Our vast subway network means that commute time really does not play too of big a factor in deciding whether to move or not. The main reason we find that people move is that the cost of living and their rent has gone up. They got priced out so they look for other areas to call home.

Why Do New Yorkers Love Movers?

New York is a funny place. It is one of the busiest places in the world and the largest city in the United States of America but no one drives. Everyone takes the train or the bus. That is one of the reasons why moving companies are so needed in NYC because no one has cars. You shouldn’t move a mattress while riding the subway. Another reason is the sheer physicality of the apartments in New York. Everything is narrow or small (but trendy). You really have to know what you are doing to move furniture into some of these apartments.

Why Do New Yorkers Love Dumbo Moving?

Why-people-move

New Yorkers love Dumbo Moving because we strive to make moving as stress-free experience as possible. Moving used to be a hassle: dealing with your landlords, repainting or repairing your old apartment, changing your mailing address, changing your utilities, etc. And all of that is before a single box is put in the moving truck. We understand the stress involved and we aren’t going to add to it. Every move has a moving representative that make sure your move goes smoothly. Your moving rep will go through each item in your house and make sure you don’t leave anything out. Unlike other moving companies we do not charge by weight rather than square footage. So feel free to bring along that piano or spare mattress to your new place.

What You Can Do to Speed Up Your Move?

On the day of your move, there is little you have to do. We do all the (literal) heavy lifting but here are some tips to make sure you have a speedy move. Before the day of the move, make sure that your moving representative has a copy of your building’s certificate of insurance. Check to see if there are any moving times restrictions. Put all the boxes in the center of the room if possible. This is because our movers move the boxes first so they move space to wrap up furniture in protective blankets. Make sure that all drawers, cabinets and book cases are empty. Take down all mirrors and artwork from the walls and lean it against the walls. Make sure nothing is plugged in the outlets. Make sure closets are empty but leave all hanging clothes because we will pack that for you. We have special wardrobe boxes designed for hanging clothes. After all that is done, sit back and enjoy your move.
