• The Albany side often has more room to work. Many Capital Region homes have driveways, but older rowhouses in neighborhoods like Center Square and Park South have narrow stairs and street parking, so tell us about access at your new address.

• You may not need everything right away. If you're buying furniture for a bigger home or closing on a house later, you can keep part of your belongings in storage until you're ready.

Albany to NYC Moving

Moving from Albany to New York City usually means fitting a household into less space, in a building with its own rules. Before booking, find out from your new NYC building:

• Whether a COI is required and exactly what it needs to say

• Which days and hours moves are allowed, and whether the elevator must be reserved

• Whether there's a service entrance or loading area for the truck

6–8 weeks before: Request a quote and schedule a virtual or in-person survey. We recommend booking long-distance moves at least 4–6 weeks ahead, especially in spring and summer.

4 weeks before: Confirm your moving date, then ask both buildings about COIs, elevator reservations and move-in hours. Decide whether you need storage.
